The Tehri Dam in Uttaranchal is the 5th tallest dam in the world, with a height of over 855 feet (261 m). It is located on the Bhagirathi River, which is the principal tributary of the sacred River Ganges. Tehri Dam has a power generation capacity of 2400 MW, provision of irrigation to an area of 270,000 hectares and irrigation stabilization to an area of 600,000 hectares.

Tehri Dam in Uttaranchal is maintain by Tehri Hydro Development Corporation. The dam is also capable of supplying 270 million gallons of drinking water per day to the industrialized areas of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Like other parts of the Himalayan region, Tehri Garhwal has various ethnic groups living side by side. The native Garhwalis generally make their living through different agricultural activities in the hilly land. Most of the native Tehri Garhwal people like Jaunsari, Buksha, Tharu, and Raji are Hindus and Buddhists. There are many places to see in Tehri Garhwal region like Nagtibba, Devprayag and Khatling Glacier, or the ancient holy temples like Surkanda Devi, Buda Kedar Temple, Sem-Mukhem temple and Chandrabadani temple etc. Tehri Garhwal is another quaint but beautiful little hill district in Uttarakhand.

Buda Kedar Temple :

It is situated in the Buda Kedar village at a distance of 60 km by road from New-Tehri. It is located at the confluence of rivers Bal Ganga and Dharam Ganga. According to a legend, Duryodhana meditated, after the Kurukshetra war, in the same place where the temple is built.

It is situated near the village of Kaddukhal, about 33 km away by road from the town of New-Tehri. It lies at an elevation of 3030 m above sea level. Surkanda Devi Temple is dedicated to Goddess Parvati and is situated on the Sukhanda Peak.

Khatling Glacier :
